SXSW 2009 Recap

We was all over SXSW in 2009, y’all, both officially and unofficially. Here’s a run-down of what went down:

Bar Camp
Was flattered and excited to do some Terp 2 it for the after-party @ Bar Camp. Technical difficulties with the sound equipment made for a bumpy show but we worked it just fine. Highlight was the host who beforehand said “I’m literally crazy, I’ll do anything man. Everyone knows me as being crazy so let me know if you want me to do something” and then during my show when prompted to participate in a call and response chorus stood there with his arms folded, refusing to be crazy.

Comedy @ Chicken Ranch Records Day Party
I hosted an impromptu game show was held called “Guess the Secret” that ended with best friends being mildly uncomfortable with each other for about 10 minutes. It was a back-and-forth battle where each participant had to guess a secret that the other person was keeping from them. It ended with a paper-rock-scissors match where the audience got to vote on who through what. THRILLS TO THE MAX.

Studio8.net’s Big Pig @ The Spider House

On Thursday all arrows and dotted lines were pointed at the Studio8.net Big Pig comedy show. Hannibal Burress was there and he destroyed. The McDonalds corporate comedy crew showed up and made some jokes about Quarter Pounders. We played some Studio8.net sketches on the big screen. EVEN MORE THRILLS.

Fuck this City @ SXSW Film
The video played three times during the fest and was a success each time. After the final showing we did a surprise Q&A with the audience who wasn’t as surprised as we were.

Nerdcore @ Prague
The official SXSW showcase was packed – I’ve never performed in a dungeon before, nor with MC Lars, Jesse Dangerously or MC Frontalot.

Terp 2 it @ Emerald City Press
I had no idea what to expect at a day show in front of a coffee shop but manohmanohman. There was a skate ramp in front, a busy busy North Lamar blvd, bunches of people in the crowd, and people across the street at Cheapo cheering us on. Most of the show is on the Terp 2 it YouTube account. Later that night I performed an official standup set at the Velveeta Room, but not this kind.

Nerdcore Nerdfest @ Spider House

This was the big closer and easily the best Terp 2 it show we’ve ever done. For the second show in a row we rapped along to something the audience brought in – (tentative titles: reading-rap, blog-hop, found-rap) this time it was a car manual and a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird. (Hint: for all future Terp 2 it shows, bring in anything for us to rap. You’ll be a hero). Unfortunately, I don’t have any tape on this show, but it may be out in the innynet somewhere, we just have to keep digging.

Thanks to the Austin Chronicle for the love (big ole’ Terp 2 it album cover graphic in the listings), Wired Magazine for all that publicity, all the new and old fans, and SXSW for putting on such a monster event.

More in the FlickR set.
