Terp's Wrestling Blog: A supplemental recap of the WWE draft
April 17th, 2009
The Draft is what hooked me back into this professional wrestling nonsense, so it’s almost like I have to recap the entire thing – but here’s the Big Reveal, folks – I want to recap it. No doubt you are slipping into a stunned state of mind. The video below is a professional-grade look at what went down. Below that is another, in paragraph form.
ECW
There I was, all excited about ECW and they look like they might be the big dumb losers in this draft. At least Christian stayed. The brand also picked up Hurricane Helms, Ezekiel Jackson, Zach Ryder, and DH Smith, son of the British Bulldog. I suppose there is potential there, but I’m sad to see John Morrison go. The 3 month long feud between Mark Henry and Ezekiel Jackson is as inevitable as me being disappointed by a potential 3 month long feud between Mark Henry and Ezekiel Jackson.
RAW
RAW gets The Brian Kendrick (good for him), Festus (I don’t get it), Hornswoggle (I don’t care), Carlito (boring), Chavo (I can dig it), Primo (who?), and Mr. Kennedy. I really like Mr. Kennedy. I might love him. That aside, the supplemental draft doesn’t look like it was too kind to RAW. But I really like Mr. Kennedy.
Smackdown

I’m not happy that my prediction was half-right. Top ECW talent John Morrison is shipped to Smackdown along with Dolph Ziggler and Ricky Ortiz, both of whom I know nothing about, so I do some research. Dolph’s entrance video is really terrible unless it’s part of his gimmick. The same backstage shot of the handshake was boring the first time, repetitive the second and third, and hilarious the fourth throug ninth. Ricky Ortiz looks interesting in this backstage segment where he’s pushing his own merchandise.
Smackdown also nabs Cryme Tyme, who I remember liking before entering Dark Period #2, Mike Knox, who is probably another mis-used big guy, and Charlie Haas, who had me at Team Angle.
I’ll be watching Smackdown for the first time tonight, which is why I put the logo on this page, to remind me. Skeptical.
For a complete official list of what went down, here you go.
Getting External:
With the exception of a sports game every now and then and Super Smash Brothers whenever I’m in Los Angeles, I don’t play many video games. Wrestling ones almost always disappoint me. The VE3TRO guys recently reviewed Legends of Wrestlemania and it looks like it’s probably better than Pro Wrestling was for the NES.
