Cane's Introduces New Low Fat Menu

Raising Cane's has been a staple for Baton Rouge college life for years now sporting the basic menu of chicken, toast, and french fries. While everyone loves the food, most try their best to stay away from Cane's because of the sheer quantity of fat dripping from each zesty tender box.

Well, times they are a-changing. In order to adapt to the healthy lifestyles many students are now enduring, Cane's has opted to employ a "healthier" menu. Cane, the owner of the restaurant, sat in a secluded cabin for 4 months and finally conceived the "Lean Box." The Lean Box contains 12 less french fries than the original box, which immediately eliminates 9 fat grams. During the 2001 Baton Rouge Fast Food Convention, Cane's fanatics were already raving about this exciting adjustment.

"It tastes just the same, and it has SO much less fat," exclaimed Kacy Woodstro, Anthropology sophomore.

Cane and his cooks are also rejoicing about the changes.

"I used to limit myself to one box per shift. With the new Lean Box, I eat 2. I can do that because it has less fat," says 2-year cook Kent Stratrast.

Another way Cane's cuts the fat is by not buttering the toast it includes in the box. In addition to this, the toast is usually half its normal size depending on how hungry the cooks are.

"We really didn't see the need to add any more labor for the guys, so when the bread comes out the oven, the guys usually take a bite out of each piece instead of cutting it with one of those knives. It's a safety measure, fat burning method, and reward for the cooks all rolled up into one," commented Cane, manager of the Cane's in the Mall of Louisiana. Hey weight watchers, the new method of serving toast knocks off another 3 grams of fat.

Cane's patrons everywhere are rejoicing, especially the fat ones.

"I gained 45 pounds my freshman year from eating Cane's at least 3 times a weekend. I worked my ass off my sophomore year and lost 40 pounds. I'm happy now that I can keep my body, but return to stuffing my face with CANE'S!," said Sandra Wolfe.

There are currently no plans to release low fat "Cane's sauce." When asked for comment on why not and when can we look forward to this revolution, the chain's founder, Cane, replied "Well, we are not really sure how to make that less fatty since it is 96% fat as it is. But that's between you and me."

Last but not least comes the chicken. How did the Raising Cane's scientists plan on reducing the fat in the most popular menu item? The chicken, the company's money maker, contains a whopping 84 grams of fat per Cane's box.

Cane smiled as he said, "It's too simple. We just cook them in the grease for 1 minute less than we used to. The fingers are more flavorful in my opinion, they're less crispy, and less fat soaks into them."
