New Reality TV Show to Track LSU Students

Fans of The Real World, Big Brother, and Survivor will likely be disappointed with the new reality series coming from LSU’s student-run Tiger Television. The show, tentatively titled Living at LSU is Neat, will document six students who are currently enrolled at LSU as they go to class, hang out in the Union, and take part in various other mundane activities that typical college students do.

“Two weeks ago at the staff picnic, we were talking about how Tiger TV could compete with larger TV networks like ABC and CBS. Someone said we all needed a big reality check, which made me think of a reality show,” said show producer Jan Fontenot. “And since no one could come up with anything more creative or interesting than just following students around with video cameras, we decided to go with that angle.”

Tiger TV Station Manager Krystal Balsyc added, “It’s going to be both fun and entertaining and fun to watch.”

Minimally answering any specific questions and offering only vague descriptions, Fontenot said that students can expect Living at LSU is Neat to throw the conventions of other successful reality programs out the window.

“Hopefully,” Fontenot said, “Our show’s cutting edge, in-your-face look at university life will attract the attention of potential LSU students in other areas of the country. Our show will make them feel like they live here already without them ever having to step foot on campus.”

However, since Tiger TV’s channel is only broadcast locally to on-campus television sets, the show will only be viewable to students already living on LSU campus.

The Campus Dirt polled 8,000 LSU students about their desire to watch a show about the lives of LSU students. Not surprisingly, all 8,000 students asked what Tiger TV was and said they would rather watch syndicated reruns of the late-90’s hit sitcom Living Single.

Tiger TV, who conducted no polls of any sort, denies that this is poor planning on their part and assures the student body that “the show will definitely still go on.”

“You could call it a mistake,” Fontenot said. “But mistakes are what’s kept Tiger TV on the air for hundreds of years. We are still going to keep editing every excruciating second of boring footage that our twelve cameramen bring in every day.”

“We feel it is important for the staff of Tiger TV to learn how to make shows. Even if nobody watches those shows,” said Balsyc.

Tiger TV recently allowed a media viewing of the hour-long pilot episode. The first half of the episode slowly and thoroughly introduces the six students, who happen to be Fontenot, Balsyc, and four other Tiger TV employees. The episode’s second half is a simple rock music montage composed of old LSU stock footage from football games and snippets of random student camerawork.

After the viewing, Balsyc revealed that the four episodes that comprise Living at LSU is Neat’s first season will cost around $10,000 apiece to produce. The Campus Dirt reporter conducting this interview, who has since been given a raise, told Fontenot that no one would watch any of the Tiger TV shows, especially this one. He then called Balsyc an idiot and spat upon a stack of Tiger TV T-shirts.

As she violently ended the interview, Balsyc commented, “You know, it’s nothing new that nobody watches our stupid shows. We waste lots of time and money. But loads of university money is going to keep funding us to waste more time, so we still feel very important in university life.”

All of the above exchange will be included in Living at LSU is Neat’s third episode, followed by a 20-minute long segment of one student watching television and a 15-minute segment of another student doing his laundry.
